Job description
The Canteen, a year round, high-energy, fast-casual, community-focused restaurant institution in Provincetown, Massachusetts, is looking for kitchen managers to oversee the day-to-day operation of its BOH staff at both our restaurant and commissary kitchen

The responsibilities and focus of the job evolves throughout the year to meet the unique challenges of each season: During the summer when we serve thousands of guests each day with a BOH staff of over 30 people (~20 at restaurant and ~10 at commissary kitchen); during the winter when our back-of-house staff drops to around 5 full time crew members; and during the variable spring and fall periods. We strive to keep our crew and community busy and engaged year round with a variety of events and specials which include:
Oktoberfest, our annual Holiday Market (thecanteenholidaymarket.com), theme meals, special events, wedding parties, etc.
The back of house manager reports directly to our general manager/ chef and oversees all back of house staff (dishwashers, poters, line cooks, prep cooks)
Job Expectations:
Demonstrates leadership skills; inspires and motivates others to perform well
Arrives on time for all scheduled shifts, meetings, and trainings
Guides the kitchen to meet the demands of each day, week, month and season
Follows the principles of servant leadership, stewardship, and all of the Canteen’s management approaches
Understands and follows local health and safety requirements; ensures health standards are upheld
Leads back of house staff in cleaning and maintaining of all kitchen/ storage facilities, equipment and fixtures
Oversees safety of our facilities and staff
Schedules staff appropriately with consideration to volume/ sales trends, weather, events
Responsible for training all departmental staff. Includes: supervisors, and all front line staff
Encourages a positive, energetic workflow. Praises positive behaviors, corrects errors and enforces company rules
Oversees and/or works the various BOH positions depending on the shift/day/season
Learns and knows all menu dishes ingredients, preperation, and allergens
Provides hands-on help if needed by any of our teams
Participates in the owners/managers meetings
Participates in setting realistic goals for the BOH and the business. Develops actions plans, training programs and accountability protocols for those goals to be met.
